I have no idea how to start a blog. Much less write about my life and what God is doing. Honestly, I'm scared to death. It makes me feel vulnerable. ...let me tell you a little part of my story. And why I'm starting a blog.
In 2012 my sister and I started busing out to San Jose. Costa Rica's capital. We spent a lot of time in Parks. Made new friends. Handed out coffee and pizza to homeless and lonely kids. Prayer walked around San Jose's biggest brothel. Had a pizza party with over 20 Gothic youth. Listened to lonely hippies play their beat up guitars,... It was on one of our first trips that we met Her. She's gorgeous. Has a beautiful name and smile. She came running up to us for a piece of pizza. She hadn't eaten for two days. She was weak. We stood in front of a brothel and talked with her for over thirty minutes. We met with her several times in the next few months. She always came running. The last time we saw her she was 3 months pregnant. She quoted, - ''I have slept with hundreds of men, but do not know the meaning of true love.'' Life is not random. The people you meet, or the challenges you face are not an accident. God knows what He's up to. The girl who came running up to us for a piece of pizza was not a random coincidence. She opened our eyes to the pain and injustice there is in San Jose. And throughout the world. In 2013 we started volunteering part time with a mission thats heart is to love and fight for justice. Justice for the men, women and children who are caught in trafficking, sexual exploitation and prostitution. It has been an amazing experience. One I will never regret. And I could never thank them enough for giving me that opportunity! Maybe one of these times I can share more about my experiences in San Jose. But these next few months I'll focus on my experiences in Amsterdam. I have been accepted for the 2015 YWAM SHINE seminar. - Shine Seminar is a six week course held in Amsterdam. It is designed to promote a healthy understanding of injustice and the Christian response. Through the course we hope to provide resources and practical tools, while mobilizing and connecting those who desire to pursue a long term missions calling as an activist or missions worker in communities impacted by the global sex trade. My goal for this blog is to stay accountable, post pictures, ....But most of all, I need prayer support. I know living in the Red Light district of Amsterdam is not going to be easy, much less a vacation. We are all fighting our own battles that we can't fight alone. This is mine right now. So please back me up. God's leading has been amazing, not easy, but amazing!! My family, church, FOJ, and friends who have supported and blessed me through this. "you guys are blasted awesome! love you all." A few of my favorite verses and quotes: "The Lord Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm." Ex. 14:14 ''And he will be our peace..." Micah 5:5 ''God is our place of safety." Ps. 62:8 ''For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'' Jeremiah 29:11 ''The Lord will keep you from all harm-he will watch over your life; The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.'' Ps. 121:7-8 "O Sovereign LORD," I said, "I can't speak for you! I'm too young!" The LORD replied, "Don't say, 'I'm too young,' for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. And don't be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the LORD, have spoken!" Jeremiah 1: 6-7-8 “You may choose to look the other way but you can never say again that you did not know.” ― William Wilberforce “If to be feelingly alive to the sufferings of my fellow-creatures is to be a fanatic, I am one of the most incurable fanatics ever permitted to be at large.” ― William Wilberforce “Do not think that love in order to be genuine has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired. Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.” ― Mother Teresa “God doesn't require us to succeed, he only requires that you try.” ― Mother Teresa “It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.” ― Mother Teresa
